Sharing Saturday

Hello Copic Friends,

It has been some time since I have brought you a Sharing Saturday post but I am back!

I know it is that time of  the year where I should be colouring up my Christmas images and getting my Christmas cards made and sent off in the mail. However, December is also a busy birthday month in my extended family so I have been busy making cards to celebrate these events. I thought I should share two of them with you today, they both use the same image but coloured up with a variety of different Copic colours. I have used a Little Darlings Stamp by Saturated Canary called Party Hardy this stamp is from the NEW release of Saturated Canary stamps and available NOW at Mad for Markers for preorders :) Yipee!!  You can pre-order Party Hardy here there are 14 stamps in this NEW release and if you are like me you will have to have them all!!

Saturday Sharing

Happy Weekend Copic Friends,

It is a beautiful Autumn Afternoon here - I have been outside enjoying the warm sunshine and admiring all the golden tones of the falling leaves in my backyard....the leaves reminded me of a couple of cards I have been meaning to share with you...their focus being on green & gold.

Green is one of my favourite colours and I am a huge fan of the YG91, YG93, YG97 combination but I seldom use it for anything other than grass and leaves (when colouring my images). However, just recently a card making buddy suggested I try using it to colour clothing - well, I took her up on the challenge and here are the results.

The stamp is called "Waiting" and is from the Simply Gorjuss range - she was stamped onto X-Press IT Blending Card and coloured with the following:

Copics Used:
Skin: - E000, E01, E11 - Cheeks: - RV10

Hair: - E21, E25, E27, E49
Clothing: - Dress: BG93, BG96, BG99 - Jacket:YG93, YG95, YG97
- Tie: Y21, Y23,Y26
Boots: - E25, E27, E29

This card is a Saturated Canary Digi Image by Krista Smith - called "Blanche". I used the same colour combination to colour the image and create the card as my previous one of the Gorjuss "Waiting" girl - isn't it amazing how the same design sketch, same colours, same paper can look so different?

Copics Used:
Skin: - E000, E01, E11 - Cheeks/Lips: - RV10 - Eyeshadow: - YG93

Hair: - E13, E15, E17
Eyes: E33, E35
Clothing: - Dress:YG93, YG95, YG97 - Tie: Y21, Y23,Y26
Boots: - E25, E27, E29

...hope you too are enjoying your Saturday afternoon.

Chris. x

Saturday Sharing

Happy Weekend Copic Friends,

I have had a big week of Copic colouring and it will continue tonight when I catch up with my Craft loving friends!

A couple of weeks ago the lovely Ashlee from the Mad for Markers Challenge DT and I attended our Intermediate Copic Certification - we learnt so much!! but one of the things that stuck in my mind was how to be a little more creative with my Copic Markers...I was especially taken with using a "dotting" technique to add depth to my backgrounds as well as texture. As you know from my creations, I usually like my projects clean and simple - well I have been getting a little more adventurous and thought I would share the results with you today.

This little image is Murray from Saturated Canary and as you can see I used the "dotting" technique in the grass - this is the first of my Easter baskets, I plan to make more before next weekend!

Copics Used:

Skin: - E000, E51, E11 - Cheeks - RV10
Hair: - E21, E25, E29, E17
Clothing: - R81, R83, R85, B91, B93, B95, Y00, Y08, Y15, YG00, YG11, YG17
Shoes: - Y00, Y08, Y15
Chicken: E50, Y00, Y17
Grass: - YG00. YG11, YG17, YG45

...for this card I used another Saturated Canary Image called Blanche - and I used the "dotting" technique to create the background - I rather like how it turned out... and can see myself using my X-Press IT Blending Card to create lots of my own patterned paper.

Copics Used:

Skin: E000, E01, E11
Eyes: E31, E35 - Eyeshadow: B91, Lips: R24
Hair: E21, E25, E29
Clothing: R22, R24, R27, W1, W3, W5
Background: R24, W1, B91

If you would like to learn some fun techniques such as these...why not register now for the Mad for Markers 2012 Copic Conference to be held in September - there will be plenty of great inspiration and tutoring at this event.

Cheers

Sharing Saturday

...yes! I know it is Monday - but I have my days mixed up!..and for no other reason than I simply forgot eeks! If you are a regular reader of my blog you will understand why!

I hope you have been enjoying the Birthday Celebrations here at Mad for Markers and have managed to colour in some images using the new M4M Birthday Digis. I took some time out today, to colour in Birthday Girl #1 - she is a little cutie in her striped stockings and dainty little shoes.

Copics Used:

Skin/Cheeks/Lips - E000, E01, E11, R20, RV42
Hair - E21, E25, E27
Dress - B91, B93, B95
Gift/Shoes - R21, R22, R24
Stockings - B91, B93, B97, W1, W3, W5

It is a little hard to see, but I placed some white gel pen dots and some clear kindy glitz on the little gift but for some reason when I photographed the card it showed up as a "blob" of gold splatter!.......to save myself time, I made a conscious effort of limiting my Copic colours - a little difficult to do when there is such a gorgeous array of colours to choose from...however, I managed to do 2 cards today using this same colour combination...the other is also a digi imaged called "Nevaeh" from Saturated Canary

The current challenge over at the Mad for Markers Challenge Blog is all about limited colour choice - with some Monochromatic Fun....fabulous inspiration for those of you who are still building up your Copic Collection.

Don't forget to sign up for the BIG BLOG HOP on March 22nd - there is a linky on the left - this blog hop will end the last of the birthday celebrations and I know you don't want to miss out on that!!

Cheers

Saturday Sharing

Happy Weekend Copic Lovers,

I am having an extra long weekend thanks to the public holiday, for Australia Day. Our national day of celebration, has left me feeling a little patriotic. I have spent the last couple of days, colouring up all the Aussie images I have in my collection, a couple I am sharing with you today.

This is Digger Marci, she is a relatively new release from La La Land Crafts Stamps - designed especially for us Aussies.

Copics Used:Skin -E11, E01, E000/Cheeks RV42
Hair - Y21, Y23, Y25, YR23
Boots - E31, E33, E35
Shorts -YG97, YG95, YG93
Top - YG95, YG91
Dog Tags/Socks - W1, W3, W5
Flag - B18, B16, B12, R27, R24, R22

I used a white gel pen for the stars and the outline of the Union Jack.

I also made a discovery when colouring this image and I want to share that today too :)....just in case it had slipped your attention, as it had mine! When I opened the packaging of my Digger Marci stamp, I noticed there was a  "bar-code" on the back that said "scan for Copic Marker colours used". I have often looked at the packaging image and wondered what colours were used and if I could reproduce the same look.... and well, now I can! - how cool is that?  All you need to do is download the QRReader app to your iphone ( it is available in android as well ) scan the code and up pops a document with the list of Copics used....isn't technology wonderful?!

...so next time I colour my Digger Marci stamp, I can refer to this reference and experiment with some colours I may not have, necessarily chosen -  love this option! * Please note - not all the packaging of these stamps have this option, but you will find most of the newer releases, do have this feature.

Our own wonderful "Boss Lady"- Sammi here at Mad for Markers created some fantastic Australia Day Freebies to share with you -

....and I just couldn't wait to colour the Aussie Gal and Mr Cool Ray. I saved the images emailed to me, in a word document - resized them to fit on my card, then printed them (on my home printer ) onto some X-Press IT A4 Blending Card

Copics Used:Skin -E11, E01, E00, E000/Cheeks RV42
Eyes - B12, B16
Hair - Y21, Y23, Y25, YR23
Dress/Shoes - B12, B16, B18, R27, R22
Sun - YR23, Y23, Y21, B16, B12
again, I used a white gel pen to add detail and the sentiment was also printed on my computer.

We would love to see your creations using these Aussie images - feel free to share them on our Facebook Group Page and while you are there, remember to send Sammi some love.

Happy Colouring,

Chris x

Saturday Sharing

Happy Saturday Copic Lovers!

I am sharing two cards with you today, both were inspired by this photo of my daughter and her friend.

The photo is from my Project 365 and portrays Summer Fun.... as does Beach Marci, a sweet stamp from the La La Land Crafts Stamps range, available in the Mad for Markers store.  The bright pink inflatable ring, blonde hair of  my daughter and the blue/green of the water all inspired my chose of Copic colours for these cards.

For my first card I reached for my favourite pink and purple colour combinations -

Copics Used:

Skin -E11, E01, E000/Cheeks R20
Hair - Y21, Y23, Y25
Sun-Hat - BG11, BG13, BG15, R81, R83, R85
Swim Suit - V12, V15, V17, BG11, BG13, BG15,
Inflatable Ring - R81, R83, R85, BG11, BG13, BG15

I also used a little bling in the centre of the floral design of the inflatable ring and the sun hat.

I was a little more adventurous for my second card, challenging myself to use a more vivid pink combination of Copics and a little air-brushing.

Copics Used:

Skin -E11, E01, E000/Cheeks R20
Hair - Y21, Y23, Y25
Sun-Hat/Inflatable Ring - RV02, RV04, RV06, RV09, V12, V15, V17
Swim Suit - V12, V15, V17, BG11, BG13, BG15
Sky -B12
Grass - BG10
I love how you can take one image and get so many different looks for your cards just by varying your colour choices. If you would like experiment with some new colour combinations yourself... be sure to pop over to the Mad for Markers Challenge Blog where our team have been sharing their wonderful creations and some fabulous Copic combinations....and remember now is a perfect time to add some new colours to your collection - every marker purchased from the Mad for Markers store.. earns you some free goodies in the Copic Rewards Program.

Happy Colouring,

Saturday Sharing

Hello & Happy Weekend to our Copic Lovers !

I am sharing a monochromatic creation with you today - because I often get asked by my friends, about to begin their adventure into the wonderful world of Copics - these 2 questions - What colours should I begin with?....and What can I colour, if I only have a limited colour range? My advice, is not to think to hard about either LOL!! I started with an Asssorted 12 Sketch Set and then when I discovered all the cute little people images to colour, I added skin tones (E- Earth Colours) and built up my collection from there. You will be amazed by what you can do with a stamp and a limited range of  colour shades & hues - if you think in terms of "grayscale" or "black & white" you can do clever things with just one colour family.

This sweet little "Hanglar Stanglar" image was coloured, in an array of colours from the E- Earth  family of Copics and made into a card using papers and embellishments of the same hues. I did use a little R20 in her cheeks, but otherwise I used a combination of these 6 colours.

Skin - E13, E01, E50
Hair - E37, E35, E31
Clothing/Shoes - E37, E35, E33, E31, E50

...even if you do have a vast collection of colours - this can be a fun thing to challenge yourself to do - why don't you do some experimenting this weekend??

..and if.... you are wanting to build up your collection of Copics? - now is the perfect time to do so because.... to celebrate 20 years of Copic Markers in Australia and New Zealand, and to thank all the Copic users, COPIC AUSTRALIA have established a rewards program...where every purchase of a Copic Maker can earn you some great goodies. Mad for Markers is a Copic Rewards Partner - be sure to check out the store for all the details.....

Saturday Sharing

Hello & Happy Weekend to our Copic Lovers !

In my previous post I mentioned one of the things I love about my Copics is their versatility and my current card creation is a true example of this. I am currently participating in a Shabby Chic challenge with my group of Scrappy Friends - it is not a genre I often work in...so this card became my "test" sample....it was so easy to colour in all my embellishments with my Copics and not nearly as messy as paint and inks!

The Mannequin Dress Form chipboard was coloured with B97 - Night Blue, The white ribbon around the waist was coloured with R85 - Rose Red. The pink flowers were originally cream in colour, but I brushed over them lightly ( to give an uneven/distressed look ) with R81 - Rose Pink and the petals of the smaller flowers were brushed on the edges with B21 - Baby Blue. Very happy that everything ended up co-ordinating with the colours in my patterned paper - Yep! I love my Copics!

Don't forget the Mad for Markers store has Twiddleybitz, Seam Binding and Adhesive Pearls & Rhinestones available to purchase that can be colour matched with Copic Markers to co-ordinate with your coloured images or decorative paper - you can check these out and all the other fabulous products available from the store next weekend at the Penrith Papercrafts Festival. Sammi will be there with some of the talented Design Team girl - be sure to pop along and say Hello! :)

Enjoy

Saturday Sharing

Hello Copic Lovers - yes! I know it is Monday - the weekend just disappeared before my very eyes LOL!! but as the saying goes "better late than never" :)

I often get asked what is the most favourite thing I love about my Copics - and it really is a tough question to answer! I love the vast colour range, I love how easy they are to blend, I love their versatility - I love.....yes the list goes on an on. However, I truly just love colouring in with them. I have a passion for all sorts of Arts & Crafts but there is something very therapeutic about colouring. I find colouring very relaxing . I often have heaps of images stamped out on my X-Press IT Blending Card ready to go and when life gets tough I reach for them and my 'beloved' Copics and have some good old  chill-out time. I have been doing that a lot lately LOL!... and finally spent some time the last few days making these coloured images into cards - a couple I'm sharing with you today.

This is 'Hip Hop' girl is a 'Hanglar Stanglar' image coloured with my favourite shades of Pink - R81, R83, R85 & Blue - B91, B93, B95. I consider these a "must-have" in any Copic Collection.

..and this sweet 'Lily of the Valley' image is sure to cheer anyone up - that teddy-bear is so very cute! Mr Teddy was coloured with E31, E33, E35 and E37 - his rosey cheeks were courtesy of a little more R83 and his caring Nurse was coloured in with Warm Greys - W1, W3 and W5 and Red - R22, R24, R27

I hope you get to have yourself some "chill-out" time this week with your favourite Copic colours

Enjoy

One for the Boys

As we celebrate Father's Day here in Australia today - I thought it was a good opportunity to honour the boys. I'm such a "pink" girl that I find creating masculine cards really difficult....but I have been challenging myself to step away from the pretty pink colour palette and work with some new ( for me ) Copic colours with "boy" things in mind ;)

This is my attempt into the realm of "manhood" a card based on the sketch I mentioned in yesterday's post. Once again, it is a digi stamp by Mo Manning called "Big Guy Grilling".

Copics Used:

Shirt - YG93, YG95, YG97
Shorts - B91, B93, B95
BBQ/ Hat - R24, R27, R29
Skin - E00, E11
Sausages - E33, E35, E37
Utensils - C3, C5, C7
Oven Mitt/ Packages - YR04, Y21, Y23, Y26

If you are wanting to try your hand at creating boy cards the Mad for Markers store has some great stamps for you to practise with...... such as My Guy Ian, Ahoy Oliver,Wild Sprouts Logan and don't forget Edward and Ryan.

Have a great day with your Dad and I look forward to seeing your "boy cards" in our upcoming challenges.

Scrappin' Saturday

Good Morning - Copic Lovers - I hope you are all enjoying the last weekend of Summer here in Aus.

The layout I'm sharing with you today is some of my favourite photos of Little Miss Mali the baby elephant at the Melbourne Zoo. On the day I took these photos Mali was celebrating her 1st Birthday and like all babies was loving the attention. Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic of her sitting on her cake but I took 100's and I mean 100's of her playing in the water.

I had so much fun with this layout, designing my own patterned paper with
Copic Markers. The striped paper was created using the Chisel/Broad tip of YG95, E27 and Y26. Here is a closeup so you can see exactly how it was created.

After I ruled my lines, I cut it into strips but as you can see, cutting shapes from the lined pattern would give you some unique embellishments for your layouts too. You will also notice that I have an "inked" edge around my page and the larger mat of paper - this I also created using my markers. I ran the edge of E27 around the outline of the paper and it gave me the same type of appearance as distressing ink - I love the effect!! The Birthday Girl ticket is a digi stamp coloured in with Y26 and the Leaves and Vine is a stamp I coloured in with YG93, YG95, YG97 and E27 just to add a finishing touch to my page.

We would love to see what you come up with... using your Copic Markers to custom design your own patterned papers...and whatever you come up with - a card, a layout or an off the page project we would love to see it and would be happy for you to post on the Mad for Makers facebook page.... http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mad-for-Markers/115176458499228
We LOVE seeing all your work  :)

Cheers

Who is.....

You can see Chris's lovely creations on her blog - Christine's Creative Capers

Where are you from?
Kialla - in country Victoria

How long have you been Mad for Markers?
I was first introduced to Copic Markers about 4 years ago by the lovely Andrea of AnnaBelle Stamps - lost them 2 years ago to my youngest daughter's Year 12 Graphics Folio - they were returned last year - then I met Sammi at the Melbourne Paperific show and as they say the rest is history :)

What was your first collection of markers?
My very first purchase was the Basic Set of 12 sketch markers.

If you were a Copic what colour would you be?
I'm a pink girl, so any of the RV & R colour range but if I had to choose R81 Rose Pink or R83 Rose Mist - please don't make me choose!!! :)

What inspires you?
I'm inspired by so many things - I love colour and innovative techniques and enjoy "blog-hopping" - there are so many creative people out there happy to share. I've picked up great tips from Sammi and the M4M team and my other copic loving friends.

What do you like to colour?
My family would say anything and everything, I am so addicted!! I have fallen for the cute characters from Magnolia, hAnglar stAngler, CC Designs, Lily of the Valley - these are my favourite card making images....but again, I couldn't choose just one!!

What colour can't you use/ do you not like using?
I find REDS difficult to colour - and would welcome any tips!

Are there any colours still on your wishlist?
Silly question LOL!! - I'm a girl that has to have it all and I'm still a long way off.

What do you like to listen to while colouring?
I don't really listen to anything in particular while I colour However, it does depend on my mood, sometimes the Ipod is in my ears, other times I love to zone out in silence and I do like to colour in while watching TV.

What do you snack on while colouring?
Nothing!! - I'm too scared to put grubby food marks on my work - good way to diet hey??

When you first started with Copics what do you wish you knew?
He He!! maybe I should have been warned about how addictive Copic Colouring is.

Saturday Sharing

Good Morning, I am taking a slight detour from our usual "Scrappin' Saturday" because I haven't been scrapbooking... and as such, I don't have a layout to share with you. I do however, have some cards to share instead. This week I have been distracted experimenting with new colour. For those of you, who follow my blog, you know that my colours of choice are shades of "pinks" and "greens" and I have recently discovered the olive green range of Copic Markers - namely YG91, YG93, YG95 & YG97. I find they work well with both the pastel and bright colour palettes. This first card I'm sharing today, uses these olive green shades and I am so pleased with how well they co-ordinate with pink.

Copics Used:Skin - E50, E51, E53, R20
Hair/Shoes - E35, E33, E31
Hat - (Flower) - RV00, RV02, RV04 (RV06)
Green Stripes - YG93, YG95, YG97
I also used my RV04 to colour in the adhesive rhinestones... if you would like more details on the other materials used to make up this card, they are available on my blog.

The second card I'm sharing with you is, also all about discovering new colours ...the BG range of blues were added to my Copic collection  last year and I've only just began experimenting with them.

Copics Used:Skin - E50, E51, E53, R20
Hair/Shoes - E35, E33, E31
Dress - Y11, Y15
Spotty Pants - BG01, BG05
Flower - YR02, YR04, YG00, YG95

The little butterfly I punched from white X-Press IT Blending card and coloured it with Y11, Y15. I also used the Y15 to colour in some adhesive pearls and I added these to the centre of the butterfly and the flower in my image. The "faux-stitching" was done using a Black 0.1mm Multiliner Pen... make sure you check out the range of Multiliner Pens and Adhesive Pearls in the Mad for Markers store they are fantastic for putting the finishing touches to your projects.

....and don't forget - Mad for Markers now has the full range of Sketch and Ciao markers in stock which means a quicker turnaround for your Copic orders.

Cheers

Scrapping Saturday

Oh My Goodness!!...hasn't Mother Nature delivered us the most extraordinary week here in Australia? The highest summer rainfall in over 100 years, some snow in the high country, heartbreaking and tragic floods in Queensland. In my little part of Victoria, we have had rain all week, our river systems are on flood alert and the humidity levels presently rival those in Darwin - all unheard of at this time of the year!! This might all sound dark and dreary but there is still beauty to be found in the great outdoors - the huge raindrops on my roses were testimony to this. In between the showers of rain, I managed to take some lovely photos. Then yesterday I created a layout using my rose photos accompanied by a poem I found online.... full of gorgeous sentiment ( be sure to check it out on my blog ). I complimented the layout with some rose embellishments I created using X-Press IT Blending Card, some stamped images and my Copic Markers. After colouring my images, I added a textured look to them by "dotting" randomly over them with my Colourless Blender. I decided to tear the images from the card rather than cut around the image outlines with my scissors...this added some extra texture. I then ran my marker around the torn outline, this disguised the white edge of the card and added more depth to the colour. I rather like the effect!

Copics Used:
Pink Rose - RV25, RV32
Orange Rose - YR00, YR02
Leaves - YG45, YG63, YG67

and here is a close-up of my roses and leaves

I have also taken a photo for you of the pink rose image before I tore it from the  X-Press IT Blending Card and coloured it. To stamp this image I coloured the rubber with the broad ( chisel ) tip of my Copic Marker then stamped directly onto my card. You have to work quickly when applying this technique as the ink drys very fast. I have my stamp cleaning pad beside me and as soon as I stamp the image I clean my rubber and this has prevented any staining.

as I sign off today... my wish for this week.... is for the rain to stop, the waters to recede and for the donations to keep pouring in to assist those affected by the floods.

Scrapping Saturday on Tuesday!!!

Yes, I'm confused! - I've lost all track of time, the holiday season tends to do that to me...I'm so out of routine and not at all motivated to do anything. However, I have managed to have a little play with my copic markers and completed a quick layout that I plan to frame. The photo is one I recently took of my daughters, I just love it! I really wanted to enhance the pretty pastels of their clothes but I had a hard time matching cardstock and embellishments. I finally found some peach and cocoa coloured cardstock in "my stash" and some pink and mauve flowers/buttons that matched Stacey's floral top....but to finish it off, I really needed to find some peach coloured enhancements too. I had some large paper flowers that have a lovely shape to them but they were not the most flattering colour (for this layout)...I turned them over and discovered they were white on the back. This is when I reached for my"trusty" copic markers and decided the best option was to re-colour them, so that they could become that perfect peach colour! I chose YR02 and outlined the flower petals and the crease lines...then YR00 to colour in the rest of the flower and to blend the YR02 highlights. A pretty layout always deserves some bling and Mad for Markers stocks Adhesive Pearls and Rhinestones in packs of 100 that are ideal for this... they too can be coloured to co-ordinate with your photos and papers. Currently, Mad for Markers has 10% off all stock and this makes the packs of Pearls and Rhinestones $3.15 each -  fabulous value and the perfect opportunity to add these to your own craft making stash!!  I used both YR02 and E04 to colour my pearls, some I used in the centre of my flowers and some I just scattered around the flourishes. This is my finished layout and I think it will look best in a dark timber frame.

and here is a "close-up" of the large flowers

My plan this week is to get myself back into routine and out of holiday mode...if this all goes well, I should be back here on "Saturdays" with some layouts to share with you ;)

Happy New Year

Scrapping Saturday

Hello and Welcome to my first edition of Scrapping Saturday. I am so excited to be sharing with you my combined love of scrapbooking and copic markers... and this is the very first layout, that I have used them together - thanks for encouraging me Sammi! I am sorry to say I am taking a slight detour from our current challenge here at Mad for Markers and taking you on different journey, this time last year my family and I were in Europe. It was such a magical time, experiencing the traditions of the festive season in the Northern Hemisphere. It also marked a significant milestone as my youngest daughter had just completed her Year 12 studies and for me it meant the return of my copic markers - she had them on "long-term loan" for her Graphic Art folio. I am very happy to have them back and I've been colouring up a storm ever since!!

I made my embellishments for this layout using the Eiffel Tower and Tilda with Wine & Cheese stamps from Magnolia. I stamped them onto X-Press IT Blending Card and coloured them in with the following colours.
Eiffel Tower - W1, W3
Skin - E00, E21, E51, R20
Hair - E35, E33, E31
Clothing - BV00, BV02, BV04, G000
Basket - E33, E31
Wine Bottle/ Bread - G02, G00, Y15, E33, E31
I added a plaid pattern to the skirt of my little Tilda with a Black Multiliner 0.1mm and after I added the diamond shapes to the skirt I used my G000 to blend them - this also gave the skirt a "greenish" colour that co-ordinated beautifully with my patterned paper.

I decided not to colour in the napkin in the little basket - instead I used some patterned paper and "stitched" around the edge with my Black Multiliner 0.1mm - be sure to check out the selection of Multiliner Pens in the Mad for Markers store - they have multiple uses and are a fabulous addition to your collection of markers.

I had so much fun making my own embellishments for this layout - so stay tuned... I can see a lot more of my coloured stamp images making their way into my scrapbooking.

Cheers
